Class Description: Come explore deep tissue principles and techniques that can be used to treat injuries throughout the whole body. The class will include the following: Anatomical and physiological understanding of muscle health and dysfunction; theoretical framework of approaching treatment: The “whys” of treatment; review relevant anatomical structures; injury prevention information; and client after-care. Current information on, and basic treatment approaches to, the following problems: low back pain, gluteal region pain, hamstring, groin, and quadriceps pain; knee pain; lower leg, ankle and foot pain; mid-back and thoracic pain; neck pain; headaches; TMJ; whiplash; shoulder injuries; upper arm pain; injuries of the elbow; forearm pain; wrist pain (including carpal tunnel syndrome); hand and thumb pain.
Instructor: Bill Musser has had private practices in Colorado, New Mexico, and Oregon and has worked in a variety of treatment settings. He holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and has been a Registered Nurse. Prior to moving to bodywork on a full-time basis he had a career in college teaching and administration.He has served as chairman of the Oregon State Board of Massage Therapists and has performed as a principal investigator in research on carpal tunnel syndrome for a National Institute of Health study. Bill was selected as the Jerome Perlinski National Teacher of the Year by the Council of Schools of the American Massage Therapy Association for the year 2000. His clients have included motor vehicle accident victims, injured workers and athletes (recreational and intercollegiate to Olympic Gold medalists and world record-holders). In addition to his private practice in Eugene, he has taught in the advanced massage program at Central Oregon Community College in Bend. A former NCAA College Division All-American, he also performs biomechanical analysis for swimmers. |
